We left Lobuche at 3:45 AM. It was cold and dark. We had a long day of hiking ahead of us.
We arrived in Gorak Shep (photo above) at
about 6:15 AM and had breakfast. This is where we would have spent the night if
our flights weren't delayed on the first two days. Our day would have been a lot
easier if we started from here instead of Lobuche.
After breakfast our group split up. Winny and I wanted to do both Everest Base
Camp and the view at Kala Patthar. The rest of our group wanted to do Kala
Patthar and skip Everest Base Camp. The photo above shows Winny hiking towards Everest Base Camp at 7:38
AM. The rest of the group headed to Kala Patthar.
A view from the trail to Everest Base Camp. We spend much of our time hiking on
a glacier that is mostly covered with rocks. This view is looking away from
Everest, back towards Gorak Shep.
A view along the way.
Approaching Everest Base Camp. Mark is hiking on a rock-covered glacier.

Another panorama.
In front of the famous Khumbu Icefall.
A closer view of the Khumbu Icefall. It doesn't look very impressive in a photo.
Another view from Everest Base Camp.
Looking back towards base camp as we hike back to Gorak Shep.
